Soccer Success for Greenhills in Under 15 Leinster Girls League

There was great celebration in Our Lady’s College, Greenhills on Wednesday, May 3rd when its Under 15 soccer team beat off stiff competition from Scoil Mhuire Arklow in an exciting home played semi-final in which the Greenhills girls beat their opposition: 4-2.

Ace striker Wendy Benedo of 3rd year scored an incredible hat trick on the day, ably aided by first year student Annie Mc Cormill whose great performance culminated in a goal in the last ten minutes of what proved to be a closely fought contest.

The match was the first to be played on a newly developed grass pitch on the expansive Greenhills grounds, part of a major investment in outdoor sports facilities at the school which now also boasts a state of the art astro pitch which is being enjoyed by students as well as local soccer team Glen Magic.

The current development of sports facilities in Greenhills continues a long-established commitment on the part of the school to encourage and maximise female participation in a range of sports.

The under fifteen girls are busy training with coaches Liz Conway and Brian Kane in preparation for the Leinster final which they will compete in against St. Leo’s in Carlow on May 18th in the neutral venue of Peamount United. All in Greenhills wish the girls the very best of luck!
