Our Lady’s College Remembers the late Paddy Brennan
All in Greenhills were deeply saddened to hear news of the death of local man Paddy Brennan, on April 29th. A beloved member of the school community, Paddy played an integral part in the life of Our Lady’s College, since his first involvement with the school in the mid 1970’s when his daughters were students there.
Paddy was part of the very first Parents Council in Greenhills with an unbroken association that spans almost fifty years. Following his time on the Parents Council, he continued to volunteer in the school and took on the role of friend, advisor, and general minder.
If ever there was a job to be done, Paddy was the man to make it happen. He saw ways of advancing the school and the facilities there and he didn’t let “little” obstacles stand in the way of making improvements.
Among all of Paddy’s achievements on behalf of the school, his greatest single contribution was his pivotal role in the construction of the school gym. He was part of the original Greenhills Community Gym committee in the 1980’s, working tirelessly to bring what was, at the time, a monumental project, to fruition. One memorable fundraising effort at the time was a car raffle among many other funds generating events.
Paddy channelled his vision and energy to the betterment of Greenhills, and the local community. Countless sports enthusiasts in Drogheda have enjoyed the Greenhills gym which Paddy managed and maintained for many years.
Paddy was also very involved with looking after the Presentation Convent in Greenhills and was a great friend to the Sisters living there. He had great religious faith and would always bring back a memento and holy water from his many visits to Lourdes.
Paddy Brennan served the school community tirelessly for many decades. His picture remains on the wall of the gym he helped to build. His memory will remain in the hearts of all in Our Lady’s College for many years to come. Now it’s time for Paddy to rest in peace.
All in Greenhills extend deepest sympathies to Paddy’s beloved wife Phyliis, children, and extended family.
