Katie NíMhaoláin - Violin Teacher
It is with great excitement that we welcome back a past pupil of Our Lady's College, Greenhills to join the teaching staff of our school. Katie NíMhaoláin was an active member of our schools Music Department as a student and now we are delighted to welcome her back in her new role as violin teacher. It was with great sadness at the end of last year that we had to say goodbye to Ms Hannah Farrell who gave so many dedicated years to all the students who enrolled in the violin programme here in our school. She was also an integral part of the running of our wonderful school orchestra.
Katie will be a valuable addition to anyone who is considering taking up the violin this year. It is a fantastic opportunity to avail of the wealth of experience that Katie will offer. If your daughter has not already signed up this is an opportunity not to be missed. The forms to sign are in the main office. The total cost of lessons for the year is €150 and that includes the hire of a violin.
Katie Ní Mhaoláin is a violist who has just completed her Bachelor of Music Performance at the RIAM with a First Class Honours. She has started her Master of Music Performance at the RIAM this September with Andreea Banciu and David Kenny.
Katie has played in masterclasses for the likes of Garth Knox, Tatjana Masurenko, Jennifer Stumm, Maxim Rysanov, Lars Anders Tomter, William Coleman, Ruth Gibson and Neasa Ní Bhriain.
She first performed professionally at 19 in the National Symphony Orchestra, and since then has also worked in the RTÉ CO, Ulster Orchestra, NI Opera Orchestra and the Hibernian Orchestra. She has won prizes at the ESB Feis Ceoil and ChamberFest Dublin.
She was a 2025 Young Artist at the Chamber Music on Valentia Festival.
A keen chamber musician, she has played at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival on two occasions with a string quartet. The highlight of Katie’s chamber music performances to date was a performance of Enescu Octet in the NCH with Mihaela Martin and Frans Helmerson.
She plays on a viola by Youenn Bothorel made in 2024.
