It has been a busy January for students in Greenhills.
The Greenhills Athletics team comprised of students from a number of years, participated in the DCU Schools’ Cross Country Championships recently. Weather conditions were ideal on a crisp and sunny January morning in the DCU St. Patrick’s campus. Teachers Karin O’ Hare and Ciara Olohan were thrilled with the girls’ performance against some stiff competition. Congratulations to the Junior Team who came second in their race and to the Intermediate Team who came third in their 2k race. Special congrats to second year student Dara Ellie Schoipu who came 5th overall in her race.
Meanwhile, Our Lady’s College Maths students, accompanied by teacher Barry Tiernan took part in the regional round of the IAMTA Junior Maths problem solving competition hosted by Dundalk Grammar. The Irish Applied Maths Teachers’ Association seeks to advance the teaching and learning of applied Maths at Junior and Senior level.
Three teams of four students answered questions against the clock in a quiz format. Schools from both Louth and Monaghan were represented, and teacher Barry Tiernan expressed delight that one of the Greenhills teams secured a third-place finish after a tense tie break. They now go on to represent the region in the national finals.
