Greenhills Student Excels in Leaving Cert Music Exam
At a ceremony hosted by the Post Primary Music Teachers Association of Ireland in the Clayton Hotel, Sligo on October 5th, former Greenhills Music student, Maria Lorenc who sat her Leaving Cert in June 2023, was awarded a special prize, the Peadar Ó Cillín medal, to recognise her achieving the highest result in LC Music in the country. Her Music teacher Liam Reilly has expressed his delight at Maria’s wonderful achievement, noting her years of involvement in the school orchestra as a leading member. Liam collected the award on Maria’s behalf from Alan Duff of the State Examinations Commission as she is currently at university in Poland.
Maria who is originally from Kraków is a music enthusiast, language lover and psychology student at Jagiellonian University. She started playing the violin at the age of six and has enjoyed playing with many orchestras, including the Philipstown Youth Orchestra and Drogheda Young Orchestral Players of which she was lead violinist (2016-2019). She is a former member of the National Youth Orchestra, RIAM Chamber Orchestra and RIAM Philharmonia.
Recently, she completed her Diploma in Music Teaching and Performance at the Royal Irish Academy and Trinity College. In the future, Maria wishes to pursue her passion for music and combine it with her interest in psychology.
