Greenhills Pride in H. E. Geraldine Byrne Nason, Ireland’s ambassador to the U.S.

On the occasion of the assumption of her role as Ireland’s 19th ambassador to the U.S., all in Greenhills are sending their congratulations and best wishes to Our Lady’s College past-pupil, Geraldine Byrne-Nason.

Greeting members of the diplomatic corps in attendance at the joint meeting of the Oireachtas to hear President Joe Biden’s address to the two houses, on April 13th last, Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Fearghail, described Ms. Byrne Nason as “one of our best diplomats” and an “outstanding woman”.

Ambassador Byrne Nason takes up her new role having previously served five years as Ireland’s ambassador to the United Nations, most recently serving on the Security Council as an elected member, working for international peace and security.

A Drogheda native, H.E. Byrne Nason was awarded Freedom of Drogheda, the town’s highest honour in 2020. She was the third woman to receive the award of its 35 recipients.

Staff and students in Our Lady’s College, Greenhills are proud and delighted that a former student of the school occupies such  leading and prominent position on the national and international stage. During her last visit to Greenhills, the ambassador encouraged all of the young women present to embrace every opportunity made available to them and to take their place among the leaders of the future.

She reminded students that with education, hard work and dedication, all things are possible and concluded her speech that day with a mantra close to heart: “Once a Greenhills girl, always a Greenhills girl”.

  1. E. Byrne Nason is an exemplary role model for all of Drogheda’s young people and the Greenhills community past and present are united in wishing her every success in her very important new role as Ireland’s U.S. ambassador.
