1st Year Soccer Final Report

 

Our Lady’s College, Greenhills, capped off a fine year with their soccer teams by winning the Leinster League final against Confey College, Leixlip on Wednesday, May 21st, after extra time.

 

Greenhills struggled with some nerves early on but nearly scored midway through the first half when Ellie Malone hit the post. However, they went behind towards the end of the first half when Leixlip put one in at the back post.

 

The girls worked hard to equalise in the second half but didn’t score until substitute Delilah Humphries smashed one into the roof of the net three minutes from the end to level things up.

 

Greenhills showed great heart and got better as extra-time, putting Confey College under lots of pressure, until Ava O’Donnell got in behind the centre backs, took one touch and hit the winner high over the opposition goalkeeper.

 

Captain Abbie Walsh had an excellent performance in the middle and lifted the cup afterwards.

 

The 1st Year Soccer team have had an excellent season, winning nine of their 10 matches. During those games, the girls scored 20 goals and conceded 11. Ava O’Donnell was top scorer with 13 goals, while Maddie Reyolds had eight and Delilah Humphries scored five.
